V-League 2026-2027 Round 2: SLNA Cause a Surprise, but Ha Noi Are the Real Warning Sign

In the 14 matches played so far in the 2026-2027 V-League, not one has ended in a draw. On Sunday night, after Round 2 closed, I sat down, opened the table and counted line by line. Three teams with two wins from two, eight teams on exactly three points, three teams still without a point. Not a single horizontal dash in the result column. Song Lam Nghe An sit second on six points with a +4 goal difference, and most of the press have labelled them the story of the round.

What held my attention longer was at the other end: Ha Noi in thirteenth, a goal difference of −5, seven goals conceded in two matches. For a club that has long been the benchmark of this league, that is the data worth dissecting.

I got it wrong at the 2026 World Cup, so I no longer write a version of anything I have not verified. Song Lam Nghe An sit in a grey zone. Five goals in two matches — 2.5 per game — is substantially above the historical norm for a club known for financial restraint and reliance on young players. Whether a conversion rate at that level is sustainable or simply running hot cannot be distinguished, because we have no shot data. A transfer contract never lies in words, it tells the truth in numbers — but a number only tells the truth when you have enough numbers to cross-check it against.
